ANYWAYS! If you like me on Facebook, you know I made quite a hefty purchase of polish for a blogger and I. Welp, today I'm going to bring you swatches of that polish!
Urban Outfitters Sea Dust
If you haven't heard the hoohah about this Urban Outfitters polish, pretty much - it's a Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Dream dupe... for super cheap haha. It was about time a dupe came out for Mermaid's Dream! Swatches and review after the jumparoo!
Sadday for me, I don't have the Deborah Lippmann version to compare this to. I can't dish out the money for a DL polish so I was pretty stoked when I heard this one was a pretty good dupe of the famous Mermaid's Dream. Here's a bottle shot to make you squirm:

I won't keep you waiting for swatches, that's just mean:

Phew! That was a lot of pictures! I had to, this polish is so shiny! I did 2 coats of Sea Dust over China Glaze For Audrey. As for the dupe-yness? It's pretty darn close to Mermaid's Dream (from what I've seen from swatches online). The Deborah Lippmann version seems to be a little more "rough" looking VS how smooth this one looks. I wouldn't call this a TOTAL dupe, but more of a "if you have one you don't need the other" situation. As for me? This one is just fine and my search for the DL version is over.
Sea Dust is packed with silver shimmer in an aqua tinted base, and of course, there is some blue glitter in there too. This polish dried pretty darn fast. I had some creme polishes from Urban Outfitters awhile back and they were crap... yeah it's a different finish but I wasn't expecting much from this polish so I was surprised. In addition to the fast dry, it dried super smooth! The swatches above have a coat of Color Club clear coat, I didn't even need Seche Vite! There were also no application issues and the formula was pretty smooth.
I'd like to know how this compares to Mermaid's Dream. If you have it... What do ya think?
If you're looking to purchase this polish, it is currently only in Urban Outfitters stores - not yet online. They are $5/bottle or 2 for $8. Here's the bottle info if you would like it :]

I hope ya'll are having a great week so far! Don't forget to check out my current giveaway if you haven't already :] AND PSSSSSSSSSSSSST! I grabbed another bottle of Sea Dust for a future giveaway ;]
Talk to you later!
that is super pretty!! what a great price, too.
ReplyDeleteI bought Mermaid's Dream about a month ago - called it a present to myself for getting my undergraduate degree! I think that, like you said, it's not quite a dupe, but they are close. What I really like about the DL is that it has this amazing foil-y finish that's hard to capture on camera. To me, it doesn't look like the UO has that same finish, but again, it could be because camera's don't catch it. I agree that you probably don't need both, so I won't be getting the UO, even if it's only $4 on sale, lol. If I had known, I might not have got the DL, but now it's mine, and I've been wearing it on my toenails ever since I got it, lol. Love it.
ReplyDeleteSea Dust is really beautiful!

I'm actually not a huge fan of the Mermaid's Dream look. I think I'd like them both better if they were just the aqua/silver with no blue glitters.
ReplyDeleteNot exact dupes, but this still looks like a pretty polish, nonetheless. Not that I have any access to it, not being in the US :)
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to see if I have an Urban Outfitters near me. I know we used to, but stores don't last long in our mall.... -_-
ReplyDeleteThis is so your color!
