Here are the to be discontinued colors I'll be reviewing for you:
Top L->R: Silver Mercedes, Calypso
Middle L->R: Super Star, Jaguar
Bottom: Taupe Drawer
All swatches are done with no undies or top coat, unless stated! First up is Taupe Drawer:

Next is Jaguar:
Next is Super Star (*cough*Mary Katherine Gallagher*cough*)
Super Star is a burgundy colored jelly with tiny micro iridescent glitter. I wanted this to be pretty SO bad but it just looked too thirsty for my liking :-\ As you can see from the 1st picture, without top coat, it's very gritty looking. I did a coat of Seche Vite and it still looked gritty to me. *sigh* Maybe it would do better layered? Not sure. I did 3 layers, no undies. It kind of reminded me of a less glitzy version of Zoya Blaze.
Next is Silver Mercedes:
I've always wanted to try Silver Mercedes and I was happy when I got the chance! No clue why I never picked this $2 polish up haha. I had always heard was a great stamping polish. Silver Mercedes is your classic silver metallic polish! It applied smoothly in 1 coat! Next time if I'm doing a full manicure, I'll be using a ridge filler haha (you can tell at the base of my nail where I haven't buffed). This is the polish that isn't being discontinued. It is being renamed to Silver Star.
Next is Calypso:
Whenever I go to Walmart and see this polish, I feel like this is one of their more popular shades. Not sure if that's true but it seems to be sold out whenever I go. If I do see it, I usually put it back because I feared it would be thin and runny. Nope! Although it did take 3 coats I was suppppppppper please with the look and finish of this polish! This polish is a stunner. I'm kind of shocked it's being discontinued! Calypso is a pretty aqua colored shimmer. I'm totally wearing this one again in the future! GORGEOUS!
And I tested out Silver Mercedes' stamping ability. I had to know haha:
Looks pretty darn good to me! I stamped Silver Mercedes over Caplyso. I used Cheeky plate CH38 :]

thanks for the heads up on the discontinued polishes - I've never seen calypso at my walmart, not sure if i'd pick it up even if i did - it's a pretty color but i just don't ever see myself wearing it. i got jaguar a couple days ago to do some stamping over WnW's "Disturbia", not a bad stamping polish if you're in a pinch but it's not a bright bright gold. I should probably pick up silver mercedes too if i can ever find it, my current silver is crap at stamping.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to pick up Taupe Drawer but when I looked it was too pink in the bottle for me. I figured it'd be more... taupe. lol. I grabbed Mint Dream tonight.

ReplyDeleteLacey... Am i confusing Pure Ice polish with polish from The Icing? I think so, I am confused ;) These look great on you, well not really a fan of Super Star, but I like your fav and Calypso the best!!
