ZOYA: Spring 2013 Lovely Collection

Phew! Finally! My Zoya Lovely swatches :] Hopefully I made the wait worth it?

I know not everyone is SUPER stoked about it, but I am way excited for all the pastel polishes this year :] ALSO I'm way stoked that they brought back some of the polishes from the Zang Toi and Peter Som NYFW 2013 Spring-Summer Collections! Zoya's Lovely Collection is a set of 3 shimmers and 3 cremes, a little bit for everyone.

I have swatches, comparisons, some stamping, and review after the jump :]

First I'm going to cover the shimmers! All these are without top coat. There are 3 shimmers:

Zoya Piaf

Zoya Piaf

This was the polish I was most scared of... so we'll get it out of the way first haha. Piaf is "a full-coverage, fresh forsythia yellow metallic". Yellow, buttercup flowers is what this polish reminds me of... Or those yellow butterflies my dog likes to chase down and eat LOL! I did 3 coats, I could of got away with 2 but I had a few bald patches. While I like the color, I'm not a fan of it on me. It is a "cheerful" yellow, as Zoya says, but it makes my skin look angry red! *sigh* Would make for some pretty yellow detailing though! ;]

Zoya Gei Gei

Zoya Gei Gei

As other bloggers have noticed, Gei Gei is spelled as "Gie Gie" on the bottom label. I'm going to go with Gei Gei since that was what is on the website (in both the Zang Toi and Lovely collections) and in the press release. Not that it is THAT big of an issue, but I thought I'd mention it :]

Zoya describes Gei Gei as a "blushing cherry blossom pink metallic. A shimmery light shade for an always-appropriate natural pink nail look". I think that's why I like Gei Gei, is because it is a very natural looking pink! A very appropriate work color, with some shimmer to spice it up. I did 2 coats of Gei Gei.

 Zoya Julie

Zoya Julie

Zoya Julie is described as a "soft wisteria purple metallic". Wisteria is a plant, apparently. The things polish teaches you, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire here I come! Anyways, I digress. This was my favorite shimmer out of the 3. I wore this on my nails for a day, that's how much I liked it. The color is very feminine, light and airy and the shimmer is just perfect for this color! It's like they were meant to be together. I did 3 coats (which was a let down to me) of Julie.

Now on to the trio -o- cremes! Again, no top coats here.

Zoya Blu

Zoya Blu

Zoya Blu was the first creme I swatched... what a breath of fresh air! I just wasn't having fun with those shimmers, if you can't tell in the pictures above... they're not the easiest to clean up. Zoya's cremes have my heart of all creme polishes. Blu is a "soft and delicate pale baby blue with a glossy creme finish... a dreamy, calming blue". This really is the perfect pale blue polish. Out of all the 6 polishes in the Lovely collection, this was the best formula. I was so pleased with this polish! If you need a true baby blue polish - get this one! I did 2 coats of perfection.

Zoya Neely

Zoya Neely

Neely, a "spring green in a glossy creme finish. A fun color in a muted finish gives a cool vintage edge to your look". Hi, I'm Lacey and I love muted colors. :] I'm loving this green, too! This kind of reminded me of that pistachio green color everyone was wearing last spring, sans the yellow. Which makes it perfect to me! I did 3 coats, due to some balding. We're 2 for 2 on the cremes!

Zoya Jacqueline

Zoya Jacqueline

And here's the last creme, and 3 out of 3 likes for me! Jacqueline is described as a "magnolia nude cream... light creamy beige has slight warm undertones". This seems to be the one everyone is buying. After I swatched it, i can understand why. Such a gorgeous color! LOL It actually reminds me of the paint color in our last apartment, just a great neutral color. Never would of thought about that color on my nails, I like it though. I did 3 coats of Jacqueline. There was some streaking and balding, I feel this was the worst out of all of them, but 3 coats made it even!

I decided out of all the possible color combos, Jacqueline and Blu together were my favorite!

NOT sure where those black dots came from, I cleaned my stamper and my plate yet somehow the past couple times I've stamped I keep getting them! ARGHHH! Again, I digress. I really LOVE how these two colors play together, a subtle contrast. It's perfect :] I used Cheeky plate CH50 for the floral print!

Onto the comparisons. While I swatched the Lovely collection, I had a few "hmmmm" moments. I picked out a few similar colors to show how they compare! I only have comparisons of the cremes, I don't have anything, out of 750 polishes, similar to the shimmers. Here we go:

This was an automatic thought for me, Zoya Blu and Essie Borrowed and Blue. After I saw them side by side, Borrowed and Blue looked a tad bit more green to me.

Zoya Blu: Pinky and middle fingers
Essie Borrowed and Blue: ring and pointer fingers

They are VERY similar. Can you see it? There's a slight, itty bitty, tiny difference! Not as much of a difference as there is when you have the bottles side by side though. I'm going to call this a case of "if you have one, you don't need the other", no dupe.

Next a comparison to Neely:

A friend wanted me to compare Neely to Essie Mint Candy Apple (since she doesn't have one), and I noticed OPI Gargantuan Grape Green was pretty similar, too!

Zoya Neely: middle and pinky fingers
OPI Gargantuan Grape Green: pointer finger
Essie Mint Candy Apple: ring finger

Totally no dupe here! I'd say the closest I found is Gargantuan Grape Green, but GGG is a tad bit brighter. I like GGG, but I don't like the formula... so Neely made me super happy! :] Mint Candy Apple is more teal than green, still a pretty color!

Last, but not least:

I decided to compare Jacqueline to the 2 nude colors from last year's spring collection, True.

Zoya Jacqueline: middle and pinky fingers
Zoya Cho: ring finger
Zoya Farrah: pointer finger

TOTALLY no dupes here. Farrah is much, much darker and more brown than Jacqueline. Cho, my go to nude polish, is the closest but there is more of a nude polish than Jacqueline. Cho also has some shimmer, which I didn't capture. DOH!

Welp, there you go! My entire Lovely review. Top picks: Blu, Neely, Jacqueline and Julie.

  3. I love this collection! I missed out on the Zang Toi Collection and I was really upset about it, so I'm glad they brought them back! Love your stamped mani! I did a water spotted mani with Jacqueline, Neely, and Blu the other day and they looked really pretty together!

  6. I can't wait to get my grabby hands on these.

Are your nails natural or acrylic overlays?

    1. My nails are natural. If you're seeing my pointer finger, I had a break and tried to save it with Orly's Nail Rescue. I couldn't get it to lie flat :[
