MINX: Make Me Nails Nail Wraps Review

Make Me Nails by Minx

Hey, friends! Today I have a review of Minx Make Me Nails nail stickers. These are cool because they're super easy to make though a phone app! What's even cooler is that you can choose your own pictures to use on the stickers. Check out my review and more info after the jump! (Caution, this post is kind of wordy haha)

This is the picture I chose, because it #1 is hilarious as all hell #2 it makes me happy. It's my dog, Scout, smiling while swimming in a pool haha it's pretty much amazing. ANYWAYS...

I was happy that the Make Me Nails app decided to tile the picture because that's what I wanted: a hilarious tiled smiley puppy nail sticker. The app is super easy to use on the iPhone. All you do is upload a picture or select one of theirs, decide which images you want on which nails, adjust the positioning and size, lock it into place and then order!

The process of ordering was super easy. The app never lagged, froze, or anything crazy. Well oiled machine, that app. I have one complaint about the ordering process:
- I wish there was a resolution warning when you select a picture, adjust the picture, or even before you order. You know? Like when you order picture prints online and they're like "LOW RESOLUTION" or whatever? If you can see the difference: the preview image from the app of the single nail is quite clear... but when I received the nail stickers you can't really see Scout's face.  :[

Oh well! You can still mostly make out the thumb nail's image. It's still funny if you know what the original image is haha. I also wish I wasn't a total dumb-dumb when it came to which way the images faced. Totally wasn't paying attention to that *facepalm*

Anddddddd that's what the strips look like on my nails. They're are fun looking and since I know what the picture is, I had a good laugh at how insane the stickers are! I think it is cool that these stickers come in a small or medium size. Small is for children or anyone who has smaller nails. I ordered the medium size, which worked out perfectly size wise!

The application process gives you two options: 1) rub between your hands or 2) use a hair dryer to warm up the strips for easy application. If you've applied a nail strips before, it's generally the same idea with the prep, size, file application.

I don't know if it was my nails (the curvature) or the strips, but they just didn't get along at all. I tried BOTH processes to warm the strips, I followed the instructions and troubleshooting tips to the T, and the result was the same each time:

- I couldn't get the sticker to stick around the cuticle area for the life of me. I cleaned with their alcohol pads the first time and with a cotton ball and alcohol the 2nd time. It just wouldn't stick! I did what they told me to do, use a hair dryer if lifting occurs and press smooth, NOPE - wasn't going to work for me. The website says that the strips not sticking means the nails weren't clean enough. GIRL. Let me tell you... I cleaned the crap out my nails/cuticle area and I still had issues... so lack of a clean nail isn't the problem here.

- I smoothed the nail sticker the best I could. I tried y'all, I spent a good 30 minutes each time trying to be careful, correct, and smooth. I thought it was how I applied it the first time, but I got the same results the 2nd time with the hair dryer.  This is where I think the curvature in my nails come into play... Not only do I have very rounded nails going across my nail bed, but I have a curve-bend-thing down, going on towards the tips of my nails. Because of this, I think that's why I ended up with so many creases along the sides and tips of my nails. :[ I tried their "lift and pressure" troubleshooting advice, and it still wasn't working. Blah.

- They didn't want to stick to the tips of my nails. Same issue with the cuticle area, these stickers weren't going to work for me no matter how alcohol-dried out my nails/fingers were. The creases weren't that big of a deal, but add lifting and the tips just looked ugly, as you can see above.

Maybe these strips just aren't for me and my nails. These would be fun to give as a unique and personalized gift!

If you're wondering about the removal. The instructions are "rub warm and peel" off. With a removal method like that, without polish remover... it kind of makes me question this whole "lasts for up to 10-14 days" claim, or is it just me?

While the creation process and general idea was a lot of fun... but I can't test how long the nail stickers last. Sadly, there was no way for me to actually wear these in real life. Things were getting stick to the lifted cuticle area, things were getting under the lifted tip area. Not to mention the tips were scratchy! >.< I'm sure these would be a mess after a shower and applying lotion.

Maybe if my nails were less rounded, more flat, these strips would of worked better. These strips are quite thicker than what I'm used to using. They say the strips are not made of real "freeze dried nail polish" so they don't dry out. Which is hand but for me the real nail polish strips are easier to fit and smooth to my nail shape. This was a total fail for me, sorry Minx!

What do y'all think of this idea and these nail stickers? Would you orders some for yourself or someone else as a gift? Anyone else have my issues or have success with these? *Sigh*

  1. Interesting, I like how these are cheaper than Jamberry custom wraps ($25) but Minx uses the same application/warming system as them which I find to be a pain!! I really liked this honest review.

    1. I like to keep it honest here! :]

I hate that system, too. It just isn't efficient in the long (or in my case... short) run. At least there is a cheaper alternative now! Maybe someone will make custom a real polish strip one day.

  4. LOLOLOLOLOL... I love the attempt of getting Scout on your nails. What a cutie. :) It's a total shame that these didn't work out though. xD They seem mighty expensive for such low resolution stickers too... :p Thanks for keeping it real, Lacey! I won't be ordering these anytime soon...

    1. Hehe There's no way I could paint him on my nails, figured this was the next best thing ;] I know right? I really wish there was resolution warning when I uploaded the picture! Oh, well. Hopefully they'll fix that issue. Real is the only way I know :]
